Birth Of Canal Bus Line
|
Black Sunday morning, May 31, 1964. A door closes and another opens in downtown New Orleans and New Orleans transit, as the 103 year-old streetcar line on Canal Street becomes the last in The Big Easy to be discontinued and "bustituted" (leaving the venerable St. Charles line), with a fleet of New Looks buses (GMC and Flxible) ready to roll. Notice construction workers uprooting the original streetcar rails @ the foot of Canal.
