NOPSI 282713 viewsThursday, February 12, 1970---a tragic, traumatic night during Carnivaltime '70 as 24 year-old NOPSI operator Joseph Washington, working on the Tchoupitoulas line that evening, ignobly became the victim of his own bus! While traveling outbound, Washington was ejected from NOPSI 282 in a collison with an automobile @ Jackson and Annunciation, thrown under a back wheel, and dragged to his death and crushed as his driverless bus careened forward, bounced over the Jackson Avenue neutral ground and slammed into a building across the street.
2 of his passengers survived, however, albeit one with slight injuries. Not exactly the WORST way to go, but horrible nonetheless!
